Hello,
I’m currently in the process of designing and building my own desktop for computer use, and I wanted to get some input from others who’ve tackled similar projects. My primary focus is creating a setup that not only performs well but also looks great and keeps everything neat.
Key aspects I’m working on:
-
Cable Management: I’m trying to hide all cables as neatly as possible while keeping them easily accessible when needed. Any suggestions for effective cable management techniques?
-
Cooling Solutions: Since I plan on using high-performance components, maintaining good airflow is crucial. I’m considering adding custom fans, but I’d love advice on keeping the system cool without introducing too much noise.
-
Design: I’m thinking of a minimalist design for the case. Does anyone have experience integrating wooden elements or custom panels to give it a unique look?
-
Customization Ideas: I’ve seen people adding RGB lighting or hidden compartments. Does anyone have recommendations for creative but functional customizations that won’t interfere with performance?
I’m excited to hear your thoughts on the best materials, design ideas, and any lessons you’ve learned from building your own desktops.
Looking forward to the discussion!
Cheers 😀
Matt has a video of a "hidden" PC which is built into a desk. He's also done a breathing PC which is really clever.
One possible way to do this would be to get a stock case (a decent one to fit your needs) and laminate it with marquetry wood which is a very think sheet that can be glued into place and won't add a notable amount to the physical size.
This is a bit outside of my area of expertise, but I think Matt's "hidden" PC would be ideal as a starting point.
and an alternative:
and there's this (which is nuts!)
and this:
Take everything I say with a pinch of salt, I might be wrong and it's a very *expensive* way to learn!
