I was looking into Dayton Audio Exciters and watched a few videos of people attaching them to different surfaces and creating what's a essentially and open baffle speaker. Audiophiles seem divided on the sound quality and the appropriate surface to attach the drivers to.
Seems like the biggest issue is that they can't produce the low frequencies of the sound spectrum very well and room placement and driver placement is essential. Is it possible to make a full range speaker out of these where the top would be thin Bamboo, Rosewood, or Ceiling tile and then the bottom be an MDF enclosure with a subwoofer to achieve the low end?
If you see this Matt (DIY Perks), I would love for you to come up with something and make a video on it!
Here's video of a guy who built a surround sound booth out of these using ceiling tiles
Quality is "m'eh" a lot depends on what you want from them.
It's a clever idea but no good for what you're imagining, Dayton and many others make plenty of internal drivers for ported and fully sealed cabinets.
What you COULD do (it's hardly HiFi) is do what Cinephiles like me do and use a single subwoofer to produce the (largely directionless) low frequencies.
Take everything I say with a pinch of salt, I might be wrong and it's a very *expensive* way to learn!
