It's hard to tell from the photos you've posted, not a criticism just what I can see, but it looks like you might have shorted the gate terminal of the 2N4416 to the case of the transistor. That's the first thing to eliminate but it may be that I can't see clearly.
After that it's really a process of elimination by isolation.
You will need to check the amplifier section is working as it should by connecting it to the power and then connecting the output to "a n other" device. Your PC likely has a "Line In" port (laptops usually combine these into a 3.5 mm jack which is a pain).
I'll assume that you don't have a scope which really is the easiest way to find out what's going on since we can see signals (or lack thereof) as they are moving around the circuit.
If you have a multimeter though, that could be useful in testing to see if the JFET is operating normally, getting power and so on, so if you can give me an idea what sort of kit you have, that would help.
Take everything I say with a pinch of salt, I might be wrong and it's a very *expensive* way to learn!
