Hello everyone! Long time watcher/reader, First time poster 🙂

I happen to come by 2 of these generic A-Star AMP-2208 AIO PC's. "A-Star" was one of those fly-by-night ChinaCo's, so they aren't around anymore and the hardware is 'meh' even as of 10 years ago, but I love the form-factor! I think I'd like to gut them and make them purr, but maintain the form-factor, you know? I'd even love to kick up the quality of the 3 screens, if possible.

I'd love for a community-driven approach, so if you have questions or comments I'm all ears!

First off, the motherboard is an unknown, and as far as I can tell, unmarked, generic China jobbie and the monitor quality is trash. Am I able to swap out the screens for better quality?

Hello! It's great to have you here, and it sounds like you have an interesting project on your hands. Transforming those A-Star AMP-2208 AIO PCs into something more powerful while maintaining the form factor could be a fun endeavor. Let's address your questions and concerns:

  1. Motherboard and Component Upgrade: Upgrading the motherboard on a compact AIO PC can be a tricky endeavor, as these are often custom-designed for the specific chassis and components. You would need to find a motherboard that matches the form factor and connector placements of the existing one. The lack of branding or marking makes this task even more challenging. Your best bet would be to consult with a professional who specializes in custom PC builds and has experience with modding AIO PCs. They might be able to identify compatible motherboards or suggest workarounds.

  2. Screen Upgrade: Swapping out the screens in an AIO PC is possible but also complex. The screens in AIO PCs are often tightly integrated into the chassis and motherboard. Replacing them would require sourcing new compatible screens and dealing with the intricate connections and mounting. Additionally, the power supply unit (PSU) may need to be upgraded to support higher quality displays, which can further complicate the project. It's a challenging task that may not yield the desired results unless you have experience in such modifications.

  3. Community-Driven Approach: Engaging with a community or forum of PC modders and enthusiasts is a great idea. They can provide valuable insights, suggestions, and even detailed guides based on their experiences. Websites like Reddit's /r/buildapc and /r/pcmods, or forums like Linus Tech Tips, Overclock.net, or Tom's Hardware, are great places to seek advice and share your project for feedback.

In summary, your project is feasible, but it's essential to recognize that it's a complex task, especially without clear documentation on the components. Seeking help from an experienced community or modding expert is a good approach. Additionally, consider setting realistic goals and expectations for the upgrades to ensure that the effort and resources invested align with the final results you want to achieve. Good luck with your project, and feel free to ask if you have more questions!
