So, I want to make a project very similar to the "Turning a broken smartphone into a laptop" one. But I have one key question. The display board has 3 ports on the bottom (4 on the one I found, but the 4th one isn't relevant here) two USB-Cs (one for power and one for video) and a mini HDMI port. My question is, can the mini HDMI port work as video out from the laptop (much like commercial laptops can output to an external screen through an HDMI port) or not? Thanks!

Do you have the spec for the board to hand? Mini HDMI is just HDMI but with a smaller receptacle as I recall.  It's primarily for space issues as the full-size one is quite large (compared to a SBC for example).

Take everything I say with a pinch of salt, I might be wrong and it's a very *expensive* way to learn!

What I'm not sure of is if the mini HDMI port is only for input or if it can also output to another screen (It'd be kinda weird since the phone would output to both the "laptop's" display and the external display, but yeahh)

Chaining HDMI specifically isn't supported officially, but it can be done with the right hardware in the monitor or (more usaully) with MST over USB-C/Thunderbolt.

That one is, I believe, HDMI in only. Generally monitors that support chaining come with multiple HDMI inputs. I grabbed a couple from a local Aldi a few months back that had mini-HDMI and USB-C but I don't think they can be chained.

Multi display technology is usually provided by the host device which would be your phone in this case so that's unlikely to be the case. Never say never though...

@marcdraco Ah, got it. Thanks then! I'll probably have to figure out some other way to implement it
