Thought I'd share my latest DIY project. This is by far the most difficult, exhausting, and injuring DIY project I've ever completed!🤣

All it is, is a simple camera slider, put together with all the garbage I found around the house.😆 It's basically just a carriage that rides on a track (just held down by gravity, or me if it's at a steep angle). The track is made from a 3ft piece of aluminum C channel and is held to the tripod with a wing nut. The slider is made from a piece of medium sized aluminum square tubing (with one wall cut out) and rides along the track on some ball bearings (from a 1950s piece of machinery lol).
It's mostly for use by hand but I did make a slow motorized module which can be attached and removed from the track. But the motor doesn't work super well as it's just two RC car gear boxes I pieced together. Hopefully I'll find a better solution in the future.

Nice one! The footage looks very smooth... pretty cool that you made it out of just bits and bobs you had lying around! Reminds me of early DIY Perks stuff 😀

Food for thought: You mentioned trying to motorise the slider. Don't even bother with that, unless you want to use it for time-lapses. It is legit pain in the arse to source proper motors, drivers and input, to create smooth camera motion, that you are able to track.Â
A better option is to use flyweel. With flywheel's inertia it is easy to smoothly sart and stop the motion and maimtain consistant speed of motion.

@latfab No, I was just going to use the motor for timelapses. It works ok except for some reason the carriage rocks back and forth occasionally during the timelapse. And the motor takes over 4 hours to get the carriage across the entire slider, which is too long for most purposes.
