Here's wishing that Santa brings you all you want this year.

If he doesn't, how about some suggestions for projects you'd like to see? We have a great network of builders here (not to mention a host with a fantastic skill set).

Not that I can promise any will get a full video (that's on Matt) but I'm always looking for something interesting that hasn't been addressed on in the wider maker community.

Take everything I say with a pinch of salt, I might be wrong and it's a very *expensive* way to learn!

Rumble...

The first one for me is a gaming chair "rumbler" - he sort of thing that can make your seat thunder with sub-audio frequencies from the engine if you're in a driving sim or the feel of an explosion as you throw grenades in your favour FPS. The idea of the rumbler is to take the low frequencies and create lower frequency harmonics. This isn't strictly realistic but our brains will adapt as they do with psychoacoustic effect that creates some of the "surround" sound we experience with a 5.1 system in a normal room. This is a bit of hefty subject and it's worth looking at if you want to understand more.

It's not really practical to do this for a very comfy chair but most gaming seats should be able to transmit the physical rumble that makes your stomach churn. The usual way to do this is with an offset weight on a motor like the little rumble packs in modern game controllers.

... and Tumble

I'm probably not alone in desiring a chair that can tilt in three degrees of freedom but the costs are prohibitive at the moment since it requires hydraulic rams capable of throwing 100Kg around - which is 25Kgs a piece allowing for a chair and an average male. Naturally the other problem with this is we would need a mod for each game to send the correct signals to the chair's computer.

It's definitely something that CAN be done, but I'm curious as to how many of you would be interested in such things.

The power requirements are high (basic physics) and it's also going to be LOUD so it's not the sort of thing you would want to use upstairs - or the neighbours might complain!
