So, a few years ago I did a monitor conversion into a beautiful eMac, an icon of industrial design, using the Iiyama Prolite 1705s-b1 which I believed to be the only panel option available, due to the tricky aspect ratio of 5:4. It almost fit corner to corner, and had a modest resolution of 1280x1024. The project took less than £100 as eMacs, old monitors, HDMI sockets and hot glue are all cheap.

However, today I've discovered the Huawei Matebook 16s screen is a good aspect ratio, 3:2 and excellent resolution, 2520x1680 with excellent colour reproduction. It's slightly smaller so the corners wouldn't be cut off.

I'm thinking a piece of cut smoked glass will form the front, replicating the original eMac look, and providing a seamless bezel to the panel behind.

I believe the panel TV160DKT-NH0 is the 2520x1680 3:2 ratio panel used in the Matebook 16s, or at least very similar, and is only £125 on Amazon or AliExpress. The quality of the panel justifies getting the glass cut and doing a better job with V2, offsetting the top and bottom cinematic bars I'll get with a 3:2 ratio LCD.

If only there was a 5:4 or 4:3 17" panel with more than 1024 vertical pixels, but sadly, there is not. They simply do not exist as far as I can see.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
