Any cool ideas I can do with a gen 1 iPad?

I'm not sure how popular iPad modding is because they are very closed systems, but maybe someone made a Linux distro or some sort of homebrew you can try to load and do it that way.

Otherwise there isn't much you can do I don't think.

You could get an LDVS to HDMI board for the display and turn it into a little raspberry pi powered arcade machine. The aspect ratio is perfect for retro gaming and you could even have it in vertical orientation for top to bottom shumps like you used to get in Astro City cabinets.

If gaming isn't your thing that you could still use an LDVS to HDMI adaptor and use it as a nice little second monitor for your desktop or Laptop.

Do you have any links to those LVDS boards? They sound useful!

I too have been wondering what use to put an old ipad to. This thread could result in some interesting ideas.

There are some fairly basic uses, like a digital picture frame, or perhaps a CCTV viewing screen (like for a front door), but they're fairly uninteresting.

@sandy Making an arcade machine would be a pretty cool idea. I also like the idea of making a second monitor for my desktop as I've wanted to stream. I will pick up a LVDS to HDMI adapter. Thanks for the suggestions. Smiley Face Emoji.

I have gen 1 and 2 iPads. I tried to use spacedesk but it doesn't work. I don't want to take it apart though. And the resolution isn't good for a side monitor.

I am planning to run HomeAssistant server on a TV box so perhaps I will use them as wall-mounted cameras plus a touch controller

It would be interesting to see if it’s possible to use it as an in-car infotainment / nav system potentially with apple carplay if it can be jailbroken and sideload certain apps?
