Welcome! To my build log. My younger brother is going through an intro to engineering class at USU and he's been telling me about the class project. They have to design, build, and then race a Footy class Sailboat. After talking with him about it, I started looking into it. He told me how they would be 3D printing their boat and fabricating the keel and frame.

This got me thinking, "hey! I've got a 3D printer. I could do this too!" I have since spent the last 3 days looking up details for 3D printed sailboats and all that fun stuff. Which has led me here. The information I've dug up is quite extensive. And, maybe I just don't know where to look, but there was several bits of info that I found difficult to find.

So, my goal with this build log is to consolidate ALL the info I find and hopefully help other noobs that come after me have an easier time finding some of the details that took me a bunch of digging.

Lets get into it!

LINKS:

3D Printed Radio Yachts - Detailed website for many things 3D printed Sailboats. They have several boats listed on the site, but I'll be focusing on the Footy for this build.

Build instruction for 3D printed Footy - Build details for the Footy. I plan on expounding on these instructions in this log.

Electronics (Cassette System) - This was one of the hardest parts for me to find. There are so many options and they can be as complex or as simple as you could ever want. From big, expensive winch servos, down to simple 9gr servos with long control arms.

Basic Single Sail Rig - A simple sail that should be easy to get put together in short order.

Easy 3 - Another footy, specifically, the Easy Rig III. This pdf has details for a very nice looking sail, with details for making it just about any size you want. The drawing is all in Italian or Latin. So I'll be translating it and posting the translated document here.

Big Rig Template - Another Rigging template. We'll see how this one helps out. Its a double sail, and that could be really fun on the Footy.

Sail Footy UK - Home of a wealth of knowledge, as you've probably noticed from the links above.

Download Links - 3D Printed Radio Yachts - List and details for all the 3D print files from the guys at 3D Printed Radio Yachts. The footy is included at the bottom of the list.

Alright, I think that's enough for one post. I'll be sure to keep y'all updated as this goes along.

If you have any tips or advice, please share.
